Disabled New Jersey dog wins worldwide pet calendar contest

Ollie, an English Springer Spaniel belonging to Pat Wooden of Burlington, N.J., is one of 13 winners selected from 137 finalists in the www.handicappedpets.com worldwide pet calendar contest.

The contestants vied for a chance to be pictured in the calendar, featuring specially-abled pets in Walkin’ Wheels wheelchairs. The 13 winners (one for each month plus the cover) represent five countries and eight states in the U.S.

The four-year old Ollie started to lose his balance and fall down at about three months old. Trips to the vet and then to a neurologist determined that Ollie had hypomyelination, a neurological condition that affects the signal to and from the brain. Ollie’s condition grew worse last year, so Pat decided to get him a Walkin’ Wheels dog wheelchair to help him get around outside. Pat says, “He is such a sweet little guy who loves everyone. I feel Ollie picked me to watch over him.”

The photo of Ollie and his canine sibling Kasey will grace the calendar’s May 2017 page.
The Walkin’ Wheels annual calendar contest winners were voted on by the HandicappedPets.com Facebook community of over 100,000 fans from around the world.
