DoggieNames.com calls for moratorium on dog name Bella after revealing 2015 world’s most popular dog names

The pet website www.doggienames.com has released a ranking of the worlds top 10 most popular dog names for 2015-16 in English-speaking countries across the globe, and Bella and Max have come out on top once again.
Bellas remained steady at the top of the female dog name lists for 10 straight years now, and shows no sign of shaking off the No. 1 ranking, while Max hangs onto the most popular male name for the second year in a row.

After analyzing more than a dozen national lists from the U.S., U.K., Australia and New Zealand, plus pet-name popularity rankings for more than 50 municipalities and counties in the U.S. and Canada, the results were very clear – Bella still rules supreme.

The name tops the lists in more than 40 cities worldwide. It also heads up the most recent database result from Dogsters community of more than 500,000 engaged pet parents. This result has prompted doggienames.com to officially call for a moratorium on the dog name Bella.

Bellas a lovely name that means beautiful in Italian, notes Toni Perling, founder and CEO of DoggieNames.com in a statement. But there are so many other wonderful, creative names out there for your fur kids. Were asking that potential pet parents consider choosing a name thats more meaningful to them and their families.

A decrease in the number of dogs named Bella would also reduce confusion among vets, groomers and other pet-care professionals and help to avoid potential medication and other mix-ups.

The site recommends picking a name by starting with a list of personal favorites – bands, TV shows, sports heroes, vacation spots, even foods – and then searching those categories in the free-to-access DoggieNames database. Visitors can also search by breed, color, appearance and more. The 5,000-name database was developed to aid rescues and shelters in coming up with a steady supply of suitable dog names. Studies have shown that shelter pets with names are more likely to be adopted. The sites tagline is Rescue. Name. Love.
